THE SPACE BETWEEN TWO

“They are not looking away. They are waiting.”

Two abstracted faces stand in columns of cream, slate blue, and black, each built from a small vocabulary of arcs, bars, and half-discs. Between them a pale band of finely combed lines does the work of daylight.

Nothing in it is drawn. Every feature is a separate raised form with its own edge and its own shadow, and the blue — the only warm thing in the piece — sits between the two coldest.

Cut and modelled by hand, assembled in layers, then framed in blackened ash rather than oak so the panel keeps its cold.
