WHAT THE LIGHT LEFT

“One of them remembers the afternoon.”

A field of soft, rounded forms in a single off-white, laid across the panel the way pebbles settle in a riverbed — no grid, no repetition, sizes falling where they fall. One stone, slightly below centre, is finished in gold leaf.

The gold is the whole argument of the piece. Everything else is texture and shadow; that one form is the only place light stops rather than passes.

Hand-modelled in relief, then sanded back so the edges stay soft. The gilding is laid by hand and left with its natural crazing rather than burnished flat.
