NINE WAYS OF SAYING GROUND
“Same land. Nine surveys.”
Nine square panels in black and raw sand, hung as a single field. A form starts on one panel and finishes on the next; a texture stops dead at a join and begins again in another language — combed lines, fine stipple, smooth ground, concentric rings.
Read across, the panels make one continuous landscape. Read one at a time, each is a finished drawing that owes nothing to its neighbours.
Every panel is worked separately in relief, then the set is matched at the edges by hand. No two textures are made with the same tool.
